Why is the JCT and NEC forms of Contract so dominate in our industry?

Having been involved with numerous contracts over the years, it is somewhat surprising why Employer's and their advisers continue to select the JCT and NEC suite of Contracts to the extent that it appears, on the face of it, that these standard forms dominate the England and Welsh construction market.

There are other forms out there and I'm interested to hear of peoples experiences with these other forms such as the CIOB Time and Cost Management Contract [see attachment below], PPC suite, ICC Infrastructure Conditions of Contract etc.

FIDIC for its part is predominantly used Internationally but it is understood that this form has been used in England on for example, the London Gateway Port project and other specialist contracts such as the IChemE are commonly used for process plant facilities.
