I wonder if someone can summarise the latest audio visual technology developments that are currently being installed in commercial office buildings and also, how this technology will change in the next 5 years; what can we expect from the Tech world?

Corporate Audio Visual has changed dramatically since the start of Covid.

Whilst many companies had previously embraced on-line communication strategies, the mass decent into working from home has changed the way we communicate on a day to day basis. We are all becoming used to attending meetings with colleagues over Zoom or Teams as part of our normal daily routines, and many are learning new skills such as content sharing and how to keep presentations focused and interesting.

But where will that lead us from a commercial installation perspective? In the short term, when we start returning to offices, it is likely that meeting rooms will have restrictions placed upon them, limiting the number of attendees who can occupy any given space. Sanitisation will also play an important role, as most meeting rooms have some form of touch screen devise that enables users to operate the systems.

But moving forward, what will be the new norm?

The general consensus is that we need to move away from shared equipment. The table top touch screens will play a lesser role and people will bring their laptops, tablets or phones to to a room and their own device will host the meeting.

So how does that differ from what happened before Covid fell upon us ?

In recent years, the trends had been toward having a device in a room that hosted the meeting and attendees could share content and make presentations from their devices. Now, their devices will host the meeting, and crucially, with advent of USB-C, the users device will now be able to take control of the fixed video camera, table top microphones and ceiling speakers und use them seamlessly from their own device.

This is referred to as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) and manufacturers are responding rapidly to these demands with a whole raft of new products either recently launched or in throws of final development.
