Over many years, the Society of Construction Law (UK) (SCL) and the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineers International (AACEI) have sought to codify, standardise and improve the methods used by the construction industry for the purpose of forensic project delay analysis. Some six SCL methods and thirteen AACEI methods of analysis (the ‘protocol methods’) have now been articulated, largely by distilling pre-existing practices from within the industry.
