  • Behind the hoardings: Constructing Crossrail's eastern running tunnels, 3 October 2014

    Tunnel machine Ellie has started her 900 metre journey from Limmo Peninsula, near Canning Town, towards Victoria Dock Portal in east London. Over the next three months the 1,000 tonne machine, named after four-time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds OBE, will complete one of Crossrail’s shortest but most complex tunnels, in close proximity to the Jubilee line, Docklands Light Railway, River Thames and River Lea.

    Crossrail's Eastern Tunnels Project Manager Peter Main gives an update about tunnelling operations in Docklands. Crossrail's giant tunnelling machine Victoria has joined sister TBM Elizabeth in Canary Wharf box, after successfully breaking through on Tuesday 6 June.

  • Crossrail time lapse video: Construction of a grout shaft for Bond Street eastern ticket hall

    This time lapse video shows the construction of a grout shaft in Dering Yard. The grout shaft was sunk to a depth of 17m. It is one five shafts required to ensure that nearby properties are protected from ground settlement (small movements of the ground) during our tunnelling works for the new Crossrail Bond Street station platforms.
