Just Have a Think - Energy storage in oxygen 18062023
Energy storage is a key element of grid decarbonisation. Developers all over the world are looking for ways to supplement the hard work currently being shouldered predominantly by lithium-ion technology. Now a team of researchers in Vienna has shown us how we can reliably move electrons using oxygen as the main source

Big batteries are perhaps the key to making a completely renewably powered grid possible. Imogen visited Europe's largest battery energy storage system, Pillswood in Hull to find out how Harmony Energy is getting as much clean energy from Dogger Bank, the world's biggest wind farm, onshore and into our homes. But these are no ordinary batteries, at 200 MWh these Tesla Megapacks are decked out with Artificial Intelligence, these are working to make the grid both renewable and flexible.

Undecided - Why Salt Water may be the Future of Batteries 09052023
There’s no shortage of solutions to the world’s need for renewable energy storage, but there is a shortage of accessible and cheap resources to use for those solutions. Lithium and vanadium aren't limitless, so what about regular, run-of-the-mill salt? Redox flow batteries, or RFBs, can exploit the abundance of elements like sodium and iron. One U.S. company already has salt water batteries ready to go, with at least two others developing iron flow variations built to effectively run on rust.

Just Have a Think - Battery recycling just got a whole lot better 14052023
Recycling will play a crucial role in providing enough minerals and metals for the energy storage solutions of the future. But current recycling methods are very energy-hungry and can be environmentally harmful. Now a new process aims to overcome both those challenges, and save time and money as well!
