Design & Architecture: London’s Newest Railway
The Elizabeth line is the most significant addition to London’s transport network in a generation. The railway spans 41 stations, including 10 new stations from Paddington to Abbey Wood. Julian Robinson, Crossrail’s Head of Architecture, and Andy Byford, TfL Commissioner discuss what the Elizabeth line will mean to London, the process of designing a new railway and important features of Elizabeth line stations which will make everyone’s journeys as easy, comfortable and safe as possible.

Design & Architecture: Paddington Elizabeth line station
The design of the Elizabeth line station at Paddington was inspired by the work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Matthew Digby Wyatt in the Grade I listed mainline station. The new station incorporates the DNA of their original grand design, with a build based on Brunel’s 10-foot grid pattern, and a design that makes the most of daylight; resulting in a contemporary and elegant addition to the mainline building.
