The above is a link to just one example of the plethora of new products becoming available to help us “improve” our everyday communications. The benefits are clear to see but is anyone else worried about the potential downsides that the ever increasing use of this sort of technology might bring?
How often, after say a ‘Teams’ meeting, do you now find it is immediately followed up with the issue of an AI produced transcript of the meeting? That’ a good thing right? Well yes in many ways, but be honest….is your first thought to check exactly how it has captured your own contributions?
Whether it be in ad-hoc conversations, telephone calls, impromptu meetings or more formal meetings (particularly those held online), people and organisations are increasingly using technology of this kind to record and transcript our every comment, idea, opinion, challenge or observation.
The record keeping itself may be one cause of concern, but my real worry is that it’s ever increasing existence could make people less inclined to open up their thoughts, leading to less engaging conversations, less challenge and fewer ideas being shared. (….the ‘dumb’ questions can sometimes be the best ones, right!)
Improvement and innovation in the workplace comes when people are not frightened to explore, try, fail and try again.
These are just my thoughts on the subject….what are yours?
